Entering the scene with an enthusiastic persona is the singer-songwriter Pri James, whose debut "Ellipsis" is praiseworthy: it melds potent renditions with melodic instrumentals. The passionate approach to this project is commendable, including the thoughtful lyricisms that provide an emotional outlet for the veritable songstress.
Far from a dilettante, the Australian alias set her priorities straight with music early on, gaining much-needed experience and honing her skillsets by performing live. This has given Pri the conviction to make strong impressions at other venues (such as the LawRocks charity events in Singapore). She also lends her voice as an alto-singer for the Brisbane-based group "Soulstice."
Although this is officially her first solo release, she has also delved into other genres much like any full-fledged artist, getting into genres both acoustic and electronic; she has been featured in trance productions "Escape by Parachute and "How Will I Get Down" (with Zack Perkovic), while performances uploaded on her YouTube channel have garnered appreciation from the viewers.
Leading the EP is "Round & Round," a playful dance-pop track that propels on a frolicking breakbeat and plucky synths. Pri's ardent vocals are candid about feeling stuck in the monotonous rigor of life. In "Get Down" however, the songstress is yearning to be set free; more of a melancholic number, the synth-pop ballad pairs shimmery sound design with a downtempo hook, bedecked by the persistent soulful vocals. A romantic tune, "Walls Down" integrates contemplative verses backed by mellow piano chords, picking up the tempo with lively choruses. "Blue and Gold" is the finishing song, demarcating itself with the groovy synth melody and pop-rock arrangements, as the vocalist shakes free from angst and insecurities with uplifting hooks— all coalescing into a hopeful and impactful conclusion to the EP.
