Six Songs in Fourteen Minutes? Lateral’s Entrance Finds Room for More Than You’d Expect

Lateral’s Entrance is a six-track EP that runs just over fourteen minutes, placing it in a format where each track needs to justify its place. The release stays close to personal reflection, with “Fruit Bearing Yields” offering the clearest entry point into that direction. What begins as a surface-level idea about receiving a gift and not knowing how to respond gradually shifts into something more self-aware, addressing personal shortcomings and the hesitation to confront them earlier. That sense of looking inward carries across the EP, where the songs move quickly from one to the next but still give each idea enough time to come through. Even within a short runtime, there is a clear progression from one track to another, with each song adding to the overall picture without feeling cut off. The structure stays tight throughout, keeping the focus on the writing and how each track connects within the full sequence.

Six Tracks That Carry Through the Full EP

Across Entrance, the six tracks are arranged in a way where each song comes in quickly but still holds its place within the sequence. “Phenomenal Realization” appears early and keeps things concise, with its length matching the overall structure of the EP where ideas are presented without being stretched out. The writing stays direct, and even within a short runtime, there is enough space for the lyrics to come through clearly. “Fruit Bearing Yields” sits closer to the middle of the release and gives the clearest insight into the direction behind the project. From the artist’s own explanation, the track begins with a simple situation about receiving a gift and not reacting as expected, before turning toward something more personal, addressing self-awareness and the recognition of unresolved issues. That shift adds another layer to the EP without changing how directly the ideas are presented.

“Yeah, Jesse!” follows with a different approach in how the lyrics are delivered, with parts that feel closer to spoken phrasing, which changes how the words are heard compared to the earlier tracks. Placed after “Fruit Bearing Yields,” it continues the same line of thought but presents it in a more fragmented way, where the phrasing breaks up the flow of the lines instead of carrying them smoothly. This change does not interrupt the sequence, but it does make the transition between tracks more noticeable. The remaining songs keep to the same short format, and their placement helps maintain a continuous run without any gaps or shifts in direction. By the time the EP reaches its final track, the structure has stayed consistent throughout, with each song adding another piece without repeating the same idea or extending beyond what is needed.

Writing That Stays Close to Self Reflection

The writing across Entrance stays focused on personal situations that are not overcomplicated in how they are presented. “Fruit Bearing Yields” gives the clearest example of this, starting from a moment that feels familiar before shifting into something more uncomfortable. The idea of receiving a gift and not responding as expected is not expanded through exaggerated storytelling, but through a gradual recognition of personal behaviour and the delay in addressing it. That shift is not framed as a resolution, but as an acknowledgment, which allows the track to hold onto its initial simplicity while still carrying more weight as it develops.

That same approach can be seen across the rest of the EP, where the writing does not rely on large statements or dramatic turns to make its point. Instead, the lyrics stay within specific moments, allowing meaning to come through in smaller details rather than direct explanation. This keeps the tone consistent from one track to another, even as the delivery changes, such as the more fragmented phrasing heard in “Yeah, Jesse!”. The result is a set of songs that remain direct in how they are written, where each track adds to the overall picture without needing to repeat the same idea or push beyond what is already established.

A Complete Run Across Six Tracks

Entrance plays out as a continuous sequence where the six tracks are placed closely together, with each one following directly after the last. The short runtime means there is no pause to separate ideas, so the listening experience depends on how the tracks sit next to each other. Small changes in delivery between songs become more noticeable in this format, as there is little space to reset between them. Each track keeps its own identity while still sitting within the same range, and none of them feel detached from the rest of the EP. By the final track, the release remains within that same line, closing without introducing a new direction or stepping outside what has already been established.
