Sylva Faye induces hope and comfort in the heart-warming  “Sunday Forever.”

asonginlife

"Sunday Forever" marks a new chapter for Sylva Faye: the songstress has opened this year on a positive, soothing note with this short and sweet LP. Remarkably feathery and easy on the ears, Sylva's decades-long experience as a songwriter and vocalist shines in this breezy folk album, as she discloses inner feelings in a tender and heartfelt disposition— with every inclination to provide an auditory salve to listeners searching for one.

A multifaceted creative, Sylva Faye has a veritable resume. She has a grasp of various instruments ranging from guitars to mandolin (apart from being an accomplished flutist), actively involved in different musical projects. Her debut can be traced back to the 2016 EP "Blythe," which is very much in the same vein as today’s album: introspective folk tunes containing bittersweet moments and soft vocal harmonies. Over the years, the British alias has crossed over to other genres; such was the case with "Feel Me"  from last year, a seductive tune with buzzing synths and a summery DnB groove. Another notable standout is the velvety RnB/Soul number "My Room" with frisky electro drums and ear-candy hooks, garnished with flute and synth melodies. The preceding album "The Space Before Sleep" is a sentimental and melancholic offering, a project that presents tracks spanning different genres such as singer-songwriter, Jazz, RnB, and more.

Getting into “Sunday Forever,” the opening tune "Gold Hart" serves a warm and amiable welcome: mellifluous vocals and a glimmering arp melody played on guitar work together, a blissful combination. It abruptly switches to lively verses filled with a plucky cadence, the vocals turning playful. "Bones" has an ominous undertone (as Sylva states "Bones is about an encounter I had with the grim reaper, where he told me what would happen after death.."), marked by softened instruments and made alluring with the whispery rendition. The first interlude "Bible" has a similar meditative tonality to it, as the vocalist contemplates her life.

For the second half of this compilation, we were equally riveted by the Americana-inspired "Honeysuckle," whose ending moments had us fixated on the beautiful flute. The titular track comes second last, and contains a hopeful round of vocals— ascending and brisk, as the song contains picturesque and charming lyricism, an ode to the good days ahead. The bonus "One More For The Road" is a pleasant outlier, carrying a chill-hop groove that is laidback, and the reflective performance is sweetened even more with mellow instrumentality.
