Björn Tengman pays a comforting ode to home in the EP "This Place."

The album art of "This Place"--- the recent EP from the singer-songwriter Björn Tengman--- instantly strikes as cozy and pleasant. Not surprisingly, that also gets imbued into the sonics of the compilation; a 14-minute-long oeuvre, it’s teeming with picturesque lyrics and straight from the heart. In this simplicity and unembellished nature of the songs lies the charm, which compelled us further to explore more about it.

Before we commence with our thoughts about "This Place," let's get acquainted with its creator. Swedish musician Björn Tengman comes off as a genuine performer who has faithfully embraced the indie-folk movement, letting the efficacy of songwriting and minimal instrumentals invoke strong feelings. Being at this for quite a while, the origins of his discography can be traced back to the debut album "Lonely Shadow," motivated by the outcomes of daydreams, unfulfilled relationships, and more. Having kept a steady output of releases in the form of singles and albums since then, Björn has used said artistic experience to push creative boundaries; more than a decade later since his entree into the scene, "Find Your Colors" contains a delicate and heartwarming soft rock layout, adorned by clean-driven guitars and a pleasant drum groove, not to forget the deep and compelling tonality of the vocals at the helm.

The titular number "This Place" ushers the listener into the EP, and it feels like a warm embrace; the jangly guitars and piano produce an evocative melody, as the crooner describes the sorrow of the fading allure of a place he once called 'home,' and that it's hard to let go ("I am still under its spell"). Clocking at 2 minutes, "Old Picture" is a sentimental tune regarding a family photo, which still invokes strong feelings of home for the vocalist, even after all these years; and the accompanying composition accentuates with bittersweet elements.

Turning more optimistic from this point onwards, "Indigo" is dedicated to Björn's newborn daughter, and the pride and hope she instills in him (as the initial verse professes "you are the chorus to my refrain"). A final touch from the harmonica truly elevates the record further, turning it into the most memorable one in the EP. An introspective tune and final track, "Dreamy Days" unfurls with the vocalist musing about the cycle of existence laden with ups and downs until the final day, turned more appealing by the resonating and mild guitars encompassing the song.

In five apt but expertly written songs, Björn Tengman proves his dexterity as a seasoned singer-songwriter, depicting vivid pictures with thoughtfully penned lyrics, as this EP beautifully adopts relatable everyday subjects spanning from homesickness to accepting the ever-changing facets of life.
